1. Introduction

In the digital age, information spreads rapidly through social media platforms, news websites, and messaging applications. While these technologies have made communication easier, they have also increased the spread of fake news and misinformation. Many people unknowingly share false or misleading information without verifying its authenticity. This can lead to confusion, panic, and social conflict.

To address this issue, an awareness programme titled “Think Before You Share” about fake news, misinformation, and the importance of media ethics. was organized by Journalism and Mass Communication Department, Sikkim Government College Namchi on 11/03/2026 to educate students. The programme was conducted on an intradepartmental level, the participants were faculty members and students of IV and VI semester. The programme aimed to encourage responsible use of social media and promote critical thinking before sharing any information online.

2. Objectives of the Programme

The main objectives of the awareness programme were:

  • To create awareness about fake news and misinformation.
  • To educate participants on how false information spreads through digital media.
  • To promote responsible social media behavior.
  • To encourage verification of information before sharing.
  • To highlight the importance of media ethics and responsible journalism
