Department of Botany, Sikkim Government College, Namchi
As per the Sikkim University’s syllabus, Department of Botany, Sikkim Government College, Namchi,
organized a one week (16th – 22nd Nov) educational tour for the Vth semester Botany Honours students to
Kolkata with 5 destinations mainly related to their syllabus. The destination includes Acharya Jagdish
Chandra Bose Botanic Garden, Central National Herbarium, Indian Zoological Park (Alipore), Sanderban
Forest reserve and Indian Museum.
On November 16th the educational tour started from Namchi and reached to Kolkata on 17th Morning.
On 17th November- students were taken to visit the Indian Zoological park, Alipore and Alipore Zoo
Aquarium.
On 18th November – The students were taken to Sunderban Biosphere Reserve under the Guidance of
Santosh Verman (Sunderban reserve forest guide) and on 19th the students were returned to Kolkata.
On 20th November – The students were taken to Acharya Jagdish Chandra Bose Botanic Garden with the
guidance of Dr. Ravi Prasad (Botanist, Botanic Garden) and in the afternoon student had a short session in
the Central National Herbarium with Ms. Shabnum Bandyopadhyay (Preservation Assistant).
On 21st November – The students were taken to Indian museum, mainly focusing on the Economic botany
section.
On 22nd November – The student returned to Namchi, Sikkim and concluded our educational tour to
Kolkata.
