The English Literature Fest 2025, themed “Celebrating Culture, Creativity, and Community,” was successfully organized by the Department of English, SGC Namchi, on 28th November 2025. The event was graced by Shri Satish Chandra Rai, Hon’ble MLA, 11-Namchi Singithang Constituency as the Chief Guest and Smt. Krishna Kumari Rai, Former Hon’ble MLA, 11- Namchi Singithang Constituency as the Guest of Honour.

The program commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour, symbolizing the beginning of the festivities. Dr. Deepak Tewari, Principal of Sikkim Government College, Namchi delivered the welcome speech, emphasizing the importance of literature in shaping culture and society. An overview of the event was provided by Dr. Laxmi Rai, Asst. Professor, Head, Department of English.

The programme featured a variety of performances and presentations, showcasing the talents of students. The Theatron : A Theatre club of English Department performed a choir piece, setting an energetic tone for the event. A vibrant welcome dance was presented by Surya Tamang, a student of the first semester. Theatrical performances included a masked dance depicting mythical characters of Sikkim by Theatron, engaging the audience with cultural narratives. A brief documentary on travelogues titled ” WANDERER V” was presented by Nishant Nawbag, a student of the fifth semester, providing insights into the region’s rich culture. A short skit enacted scenes from Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” demonstrating the dramatic talents of the students.

Respected Shamans Mr. Bir Bahadur Rai, Mr. Jiwan Rai, and Mr. Tula Ram Chettri were felicitated by the English Dept in presence of Hon’ble guests.

Students from the English Department recited self-composed poetry, showcasing their creative skills and literary talent. Swarnima Gupta, a Vth semester student, performed a song. The event concluded with a speech from the Hon’ble MLA, highlighting the importance of literature and cultural celebrations. During the English Literature Fest, the Hon’ble Guest of Honour, former Member of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Madam Krishna Kumari Rai, delivered an inspiring speech. She expressed her unwavering support for Sikkim Government College, Namchi assuring the faculty and students of her commitment to assist in every possible way in the future.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Shri Y.T Lepcha, Assistant Professor, Department of English, expressing gratitude to all attendees and participants. The event was conducted by Ms. Swarnim Subba, Guest Faculty, Department of English.
