The Department of Education, Sikkim Government College, Namchi, in collaboration with IQAC, celebrated Education Day 2025 on 11th November 2025 on the theme “AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation.”
The objective of the programme was to encourage reflection on how to preserve human values, creativity, and agency amidst growing automation and technological advancement. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from both undergraduate and postgraduate students along with faculty members.
The celebration began with the lighting of the inaugural lamp, symbolizing the enlightenment that education brings. This was followed by a welcome address and a brief introduction on the significance of Education Day delivered by the Dr. Kriti Gurung, HOD, Department of Education.
The Vice Principal, SGC, Namchi Dr Sanjaya Kumar Subba then delivered an inspiring deliberation, emphasizing the need for educators to adapt to the evolving landscape of AI-driven learning while upholding ethical and human-centered approaches to teaching.
Next, the Principal of DIET, Ms. Bandana Chettri, who was the keynote speaker of the day, was introduced. In her address, she highlighted the opportunities and challenges that artificial intelligence presents in the educational sphere, stressing the importance of preparing future educators to engage responsibly with technology.
An interactive session followed, providing a platform for students and faculty members to share their insights, questions, and reflections on the day’s theme.
The programme concluded with concluding remarks by the Dr. Yugal Kishore Khanal, Dean, SGC, Namchi. A vote of thanks was then proposed by Mrs Anuradha Rai, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, guests, and participants for their contributions to the success of the celebration.
The event was skilfully anchored by Ms. Diki Choden Bhutia, who served as the Master of Ceremony.
