World Water Day was observed on 22nd March 2026 with great enthusiasm and awareness regarding the importance of water conservation and sustainable management of water resources. The programme was organized with the objective of highlighting global and local water-related challenges and encouraging responsible usage among participants.

The event witnessed the participation of 17 individuals, including faculty members and students, making it an interactive and informative session.

A key highlight of the programme was an insightful lecture delivered by Dr. T. P. Dhungel, Associate Professor, Department of Geography. In his lecture, Dr. Dhungel elaborated on the significance of World Water Day, emphasizing the urgent need for water conservation in the face of increasing scarcity, climate change, and population pressure. He discussed various global and Indian perspectives and Sikkim’s perspective on water management and stressed the importance of sustainable practices at the local level.

The lecture laid emphasis upon the issues such as groundwater depletion, pollution of water bodies, and the need for community participation in water conservation. Practical solutions like rainwater harvesting, watershed management, and efficient water use were highlighted as essential steps toward ensuring water security.

Participants actively engaged in the session, raising questions and sharing their views, which made the programme more interactive and meaningful.

The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by a student of PG 2nd Semester. The student expressed sincere gratitude to Dr. T. P. Dhungel for his enlightening and informative presentation . Appreciation was also extended to all faculty members and participants for their active involvement and cooperation in making the programme successful. The vote of thanks acknowledged the collective effort that contributed to the smooth organization of the event and emphasized the importance of continued awareness and action towards water conservation.
