March 19, 2025, A lecture titled ‘Compassionate Leadership in the 21st Century for Global Peace’ was delivered by Padma Shree Geshe Ngawang Samten at the Auditorium, Sikkim Government College, Namchi. The lecture delved into the need for compassionate mindfulness and its practice in our daily lives. Going back to ancient Indian traditions, the intellectual centers of learnings like Nalanda, Takashila, Valabhi, Vikramashila, Pushpagiri, etc. were based on the philosophy of compassion and sympathy for fellow beings. He stated that from corporate industries like Apple and Google to domains of international politics, compassion has become a keyword for the bettering human relations. He also stressed on the need for a new approach to replace old materialist and external gratifications and instead focus on the self and bring about more equanimity of thought, reason and action. At the end of the lecture, an interactive session of question and answers were followed with the faculty members and students. The programme ended with the address of the Principal of the institution and felicitation of the guests with khada and mementos.
