OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT
Department of Geography lies at 27010’20.09N latitude & 88021’17.60” E longitude at an altitude of 1,277m in the Namchi Municipal Council, Namchi district. The department of geography was started in the year 1995 with a general course in Geography. However, In 2005, Honours course in Geography was started by the college. From 1995 to June 2008, Sikkim Government College was affiliated to North Bengal University, West Bengal and from July 2008, Sikkim Government college, Namchi is affiliated to Sikkim Central University established by an Act of Parliament in 2007.
In September 2020, PG extension center of Geography was started at Sikkim Government College, Namchi with an intake capacity of 15 students in the academic sessions. The department has UG and PG laboratory to carry out practical works with well equipped instruments. The department has 10 teaching and 3 non- teaching faculties to supervise the UG and PG students. The department of geography has an advanced GIS laboratory with ESRI ArcGIS Pro 2.8, A0 size scanner and plotter, handheld GPS, Stereoscopes, Rotameter, Planimeter, aerial Photos, topographical maps of 1:50K, weather maps, 3d models, rocks & minerals and a smartboard for better audio and video presentation.
