Namchi, July 22: Sikkim Government College (SGC), Namchi, organised its Induction Programme 2026 in the college auditorium to welcome newly admitted students and their guardians at the beginning of the new academic session. The programme aimed to familiarise them with the National Education Policy (NEP), the college's academic framework, and institutional rules and regulations.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Deepak Tiwari, Principal of SGC Namchi, highlighted the vital role of parents and guardians in supporting students throughout their academic journey. He emphasised that while the college strives to provide quality education and guidance, students' success depends equally on discipline, commitment, and active participation, with continued support from their families. He urged parents to take an active interest in monitoring their children's attendance, academic performance, and peer group, stressing that regular parental involvement is essential for the overall development and well-being of students. He noted that close cooperation between the college and parents would help create a supportive environment conducive to academic excellence and responsible behaviour.
The Principal also briefed the students on the college's rules and regulations, the activities of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service Scheme (NSS), and responded to queries raised by students and guardians.
Special emphasis was placed on maintaining the mandatory 75 per cent attendance, observing campus discipline, adhering to the institution's tobacco-free campus policy, and complying with anti-ragging regulations. Students were informed that disciplinary action, including fines, would be imposed in cases of misconduct or violation of college rules.
During the programme, students were introduced to the academic structure under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which follows a four-year undergraduate programme with multidisciplinary flexibility and choice-based learning. The system enables students to select courses across disciplines, develop diverse skills, and explore broader career opportunities.
Information was also shared on opportunities available through the NCC, scholarships, and other student support initiatives. Heads of the various academic departments introduced their respective departments, faculty members, and course offerings. Students were informed that academic or administrative queries could be addressed to the concerned faculty members or Dr. Yugal Kishore Khanal, Dean of Student Affairs.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Dewan Rai, Head of the Department of Commerce, who welcomed the new students and expressed gratitude to the faculty members and staff for successfully organising the induction programme.
