Namchi, 25 August 2026: A team from Sikkim University, comprising Prof. Sanjay Dahal and Dr. Arun Rai, along with Prof. B. B. Pradhan, Director-cum-Professor, Sikkim Institute of Science and Technology (SIST), Chisopani, visited Sikkim Government College (SGC), Namchi, on 25 August 2026 as part of the affiliation inspection process.
The visit was undertaken to verify and review the documents, institutional records, and other relevant materials submitted by the college in connection with the temporary affiliation of its Postgraduate (PG) programmes and permanent affiliation of its Undergraduate (UG) programmes.
During the visit, the affiliation team thoroughly examined the relevant academic and administrative documents and assessed the institutional facilities and records pertaining to the affiliation requirements. The Principal of Sikkim Government College, Namchi, Prof. Deepak Tewari, briefed the visiting team on the present academic, administrative, infrastructural, and developmental status of the college, as well as its ongoing initiatives for strengthening higher education and maintaining academic standards.
On the same occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed between Sikkim Government College, Namchi, and Sikkim Institute of Science and Technology (SIST), Chisopani, in the presence of representatives and members of both institutions.
The MoU aims to promote institutional collaboration, resource sharing, and cooperation in research and academic activities. The partnership is expected to facilitate the sharing of academic and research resources and provide opportunities for collaborative initiatives in teaching, learning, research, innovation, capacity building, and institutional development.
The collaboration is also envisaged to contribute to the institutions' ongoing efforts towards quality enhancement, accreditation, and quality-assurance processes, including NAAC and NBA-related initiatives, wherever applicable.
Both institutions expressed their commitment to strengthening the partnership through sustained academic and research collaboration and agreed to undertake joint activities in the future for the mutual benefit of students, faculty members, researchers, and the institutions as a whole.
The visit and the signing of the MoU mark an important step towards strengthening academic cooperation, research collaboration, institutional networking, and quality enhancement in higher education in Sikkim.
