Sikkim Government College (SGC), Namchi, takes immense pride in congratulating Mr. Saiman Tamang, an alumnus of the Department of Chemistry (B.Sc. Chemistry, 2020-2023 Batch), on being awarded the Gold Medal in M.Sc. Chemistry at the 7th Convocation of Sikkim University held on 27 May 2026 at Manan Kendra, Gangtok.
Mr. Tamang secured the First Position in the M.Sc. Chemistry programme among the graduating students of the 2025 batch, earning one of the highest academic distinctions conferred by the University. Adding to this remarkable achievement, he was also the Topper of the B.Sc. Chemistry programme (2023 Batch) among all affiliated colleges of Sikkim University, reflecting his consistent academic excellence throughout his higher education journey.
A native of Namchi, South Sikkim, Saiman completed his schooling from Namchi Government Senior Secondary School, where he secured distinction with over 90% marks in the Science stream. He subsequently pursued his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry at Sikkim Government College, Namchi, laying a strong academic foundation that enabled him to excel at the postgraduate level.
Saiman is the proud son of Smt. Geeta Tamang, a dedicated single mother whose unwavering support, sacrifices, and encouragement have been instrumental in his educational success. Her perseverance and commitment have played a vital role in shaping his academic journey and accomplishments.
Further enhancing the significance of this achievement, Mr. Tamang, as a Gold Medallist, has become eligible for and has applied for the prestigious DST-INSPIRE Fellowship 2025 to pursue doctoral research in Chemistry. His aspiration to contribute to scientific research and innovation reflects the spirit of academic excellence fostered by the institution.
